1. MACHINE QUILTING BOOT CAMP!: Ready to tackle machine quilting??? Come to this hands-on 3 day session to practice on your own machine and find all your settings. We will cover walking foot quilting, basting & machine setup on the first day. On the 2nd session we will put the feed dogs down and practice free motion. On the 3rd session we will expand on day 2 and experiment with different threads and battings. 2. "JUDY NIEMEYER": BRUSH UP COURSE: Take this "brush up" course with Cathy Martino. If you have Judy Niemeyer patterns, or have started on a project, and put it aside and now want some help with it, this is the class for you! Let us know which project you're working on, and Cathy may be able to help you get going! Hands on practice with organizing the work, sewing the foundations and piecing the project together. 3. "MAKE YOURSELF A VEST": Wanting to sew a garment out of all these beautiful cottons? A vest is a good way to start. In this class we'll do some basic fitting (no master tailoring here!), cut, and construct the vest. Some basic garment sewing is needed. Once you have one that works, you will want to make more using different fabrics, embellishing, or even quilting. Level: Beginner Date: Tuesday October 19th. Time: 10:00 - 4:00 pm. 4. MAPLE LEAF TRAPUNTO PILLOW: Interested in machine trapunto? Come and make this maple leaf pillow top for the fall. Machine trapunto, quilting with thicker (or metallic) threads and free motion quilting will be covered. Level: Advanced Beginner. Date: Tuesday, October 26th Time: 10:00 - 2:00 pm. 5. "TAKE ALONG COSMETIC BAG": Learn how to make a great gift item in this class. Zippers can be easy! All the edges are finished and you will learn how to use single fold bias tape that you make on the outer edge. There are pockets inside and lots of embellishment possibliities. You will want to make several. Great way to use up stash fabric and extra batting ends. Level: Beginner Date: Tuesday December 7th 10:00 - 2:00 pm. 6. "BRENDA HENNINGS WALLHANGING": Using one of Alaska's designer patterns come and start a beautiful stained glass project. The stained glass uses fusible bias tape (you can use ready made or make your own) and is quilting as the stained glass is sewn. You'll be amazed how it goes together. 7. FOX PAW POINT RUNNER: Using the classic Fox Paw block, Cathy designed this runner. If you are ready to work on piecing smaller pieces and setting triangles try this one out. Binding a 120 degree angle will also be covered. This one looks great in Christmas fabrics or batiks. Level: Advanced Beginner Date/Time/Price: To be determined. Instructor: Cathy Martino
8. "SAY HELLO TO YOUR SERGER": Class with Eva Mary Surtel. Three sessions, three great projects to learn on your serger! Get that serger out of your closet and learn how to use it! 9. "SILK RIBBON EMBROIDERY": Class with Eva Mary Surtel. Three sessions with great instruction by Eva Mary. Level: Any Level. Saturdays October 2nd, November 6th, December 4th. Time: 1:00 - 3:00 pm. 10. CHRISTMAS TREE SKIRT: A fun and easy tree skirt with majestic fir trees reminiscent of the west coast forest. The techniques used are curved piecing, setting triangles to make a large hexagon and an optional Celtic knot surrounding the trunk of your Christmas tree. 11. ABSOLUTE BEGINNER TABLERUNNER: Students will be whipping up a quick and easy tablerunner in no time. It is a great introduction to quilting! Learn rotary cutting basics, simple patchwork and finishing. If you've always wanted to learn how to quilt, this is your first class. 12. STRIPS AND CURVES: Make a strata of strips before class, then cut and sew curves the easy way, using a method by Joen Wolfram. This class is about colour and design as much as technique. 13. "FOUR LITTLE PILLOW": Learn a technique using fine netting and fusible applique. Students should be comfortable with free motion quilting. 14. "ORCA" WALLHANGING: If you are tired of undertaking huge projects this is just what you need. This little quilt will not become a UFO (unfinished object)!. 15. "BABY QUILT": This baby quilt is sure to be an heirloom. This is not your ordinary baby quilt, but something to be treasured and admired. Hand embroider the blocks or use your embroidery machine with the optional digitized pattern. The patchwork blocks will give you a chance to practice accurate piecing. 19. KALEIDOSCOPE STARS: Learn to construct Kaleidoscope Stars the quick and easy way, with no set-in seams, using the "Stack-n-Whack" method developed by Bethany Reynolds. 20. FUSIBLE APPLIQUE: Learn the technique of fused applique with a hand stitched blanket stitch while completing a beautiful butterly or Scottie dog 6" block. 22. HAND PIECING: A great take-along project. If handwork is more to your liking than sitting at your sewing machine then this is the class for you. 23. CHOOSING FABRICS: I am sure that the title of this class got your attention. How many times have you been in doubt over what fabrics to choose when starting a new project? Take the guess work out of it and learn a few techniques to make it simpler and more fun. Believe it or not, choosing the fabrics should be one of the most enjoyable aspects of making a quilt. BLOCKS OF THE MONTH
NEW MYSTERY QUILT 2010/2011: **Ten Month Block of the Month** It is hard to believe that this is already the 5th year that Connie has been designing the Mystery Quilt at Gramma's! This year the theme for the quilt is a Traditional Country Sampler. If you are familiar with the style of Kim Diehl, then you will love this quilt. Students will learn lots of skill and techniques as the quitl progresses. Unlike past mystery classes, students will be making more than one block per month, with th exception of the first month. Level: Advanced Beginner Dates: 3rd Thursday of each month Starts: Thursday, November 18th, 2010. NEW MYSTERY QUILT 2010/2011: AFTERNOON CLASS HAS BEEN ADDED: 1:30 - 5:00 PM
TRADITIONAL SAMPLER BLOCK OF THE MONTH: **12 Month Block of the Month** This beautiful quilt was the Mystery Block of the Month for 2009/2010 at Gramma's. The sample in the store is done in Civil War fabrics, but it is also stunning in batiks or contemporary fabrics. Students will learn a variety of techniques, including hand applique, machine applique, English paper piecing, foundation paper piecing, curved piecing and quick piecing. A great way to finish a larger quilt over a 12 month period and learn new or refresh your sewing skill. Level: Advanced Beginner Dates: 1st Friday of each month, starting November 5th, 2010. CALENDAR QUILT: **12 Month Block of the Month** This quilt was the Mystery Block of the Month for 2008/2009 at Gramma's. It was designed for Intermediate level quilters. Some of the blocks would be challenging for beginners. Lots of different skills are learned over the 12 month period. Level: Intermediate Dates: 2nd Friday of every month.
